The Biggest Reason You’re Not Married

Your younger sister/cousin/niece, etc. is getting married.

The dread starts to sink in as you think of all the aunts and family friends who will hug you at the wedding reception and then stick the knife in your back by asking,

“Why aren’t YOU married yet?”

I recently had a good friend plead on FB for us to give her some good comebacks to this question. Most people went the funny route and I’m posting the top ones here. Please add to the list if you can think of a witty comeback to the dreaded question,

“So, why aren’t You married yet??”

1. Oh, I’m not but my boyfriend is…

2. My therapist says I’m not ready yet.

3. I’m just lucky.

4. Coz, I already have a dog. That’s enough for me.

5. Didn’t you hear? Marriage is the leading cause for divorce.

Romantic Date Places in San Diego

It’s Valentines Day tomorrow! Still looking for ideas for your Valentines date? Here’s a list of the top 12 most romantic places to visit in San Diego in no particular order:

#1 Coronado… by Gondola boat: The beautiful Italian style gondola rides take you through the canals of Coronado (did you even know they had canals?) You can enjoy a romantic sunset, a glass of wine and chocolate covered strawberries on the gondola. You can even get a massage on the boat if you want to!

#2 San Diego Bay via the Coronado Ferry: The view especially coming back to San Diego from the Coronado side is stunning at night and at sunset.

#3 Seaport Village by carriage ride: Take a leisurely stroll by the waterfront or take a carriage ride by the harbor.

#4 Point Loma Tide Pools: The Cabrillo Monument and the surrounding area has breathtaking views of the ocean and when it’s low tide, it’s so much fun to explore the tide pools with a person you care about.

#5 Sunset Cliffs: They named this place because of the view. Best place to catch the sunset hands down.

#6 Torrey Pines Reserve: The hike is beautiful here, especially the path that leads you from the top of the mountain to the beach. It’s a leisurely 20 min hike each way. I did it with my newborn strapped on to my front. There is a fee for parking at the top of the mountain, if you park at the bottom, it’s free parking but you’ll have an upward hike. Not too difficult.

#7 Julian: This quaint little town is famous for its apple pie (my favorite is the Apple crumb-yummm..). It’s country charm is perfect for a short getaway from San Diego.

#8 Mt. Soledad: Beautiful 360 degree view of San Diego

#9 La Jolla Cove: No matter how old you are, the children’s pool and the beach views are absolutely amazing.

#10 The Prado/ Japanese Tea Garden: Sitting in the serene atmosphere transports you to a different world. Tucked away in Balboa Park, it’s a great place to snuggle with your sweetie and take some beautiful photos.

#11 Hotel Del Coronado. Have a picnic on the beach and take a walk through the historic hotel. Lots of great cafe’s and restaurants on Orange Ave just minutes away.

#12 Paradise Point: Barefoot Bar and Grill. The view of Mission Bay is amazing here.

Best Date Idea for Valentines Day

I love going to the movie theaters to watch movies. I don’t know if it’s the heavenly smell of  popcorn or the sense of community when everyone in the theater laughs with you during the funny scenes.

But watching a movie at Cinepolis Luxury Movie Theater in Del Mar or La Costa, CA takes movie watching to a whole nother level. If you ladies like to watch movies at the theater than this is one date that both you and your date you will appreciate.

From the soft-as-butter wide leather seats that have motorized reclining where you can practically lay down completely, to the oh-so-convenient ability of the arm rests to slide away so you can snuggle together in comfort oh and can’t forget the best thing, you can enjoy your favorite alcoholic beverages right there while you watch your movie AND the waiter can deliver the adult beverages and whatever else you want from the menu right to your seat!

It’s definitely more expensive, about $20 per ticket, but I love that there is a full service bar and lounge to hang out in before the movie and that there are some theaters that only allow 21 and over inside so it’s not too noisy with rowdy youngsters. It’s very sleek and modern and the menu is pretty cool with everything from fresh hand-rolled sushi, to chocolate fondue with fruits. There are swivel tables so you can eat right at your seat.

My only big warning is this: GET THERE EARLY AND ORDER YOUR FOOD AS SOON YOU ARRIVE FROM THE BAR. We were told to order from inside the movie theater. The waiter didn’t come to us until the last hour of the movie, while it was dark and we didn’t get our food until the last 10 min before it ended. It was pretty hard to see what we were eating and I was starved throughout the first half of the movie.

Other than that, I would say it’s definitely something to do at least once. My husband really appreciated the nice seats and the quality of the 3-D headsets that we used for the movie we saw in 3-D. Honestly, the food was nothing that special, kind of like bar food but the novelty of it in a movie theater made it pretty worth it.

The Vow is playing this week… Perfect movie for the occasion!

Ideas for Valentines Day Romantic Engagement Proposals

One of the most popular days of the year to propose marriage is coming.

Valentines is just four days away!

If you know anyone who wants to pick this day to ask his girlfriend to walk with him all the rest of his days as his wife, but doesn’t  know how to pop the question, suggest some of these ideas to make her ready to say, “I DO!” Here is a list of great engagement proposals

Top 10 Romantic Wedding proposals: How to ask her to Marry you

1. The flash mob

If you have the time, the vision and the moves, flash mobs are amazing.

Check out this link

Nuff said.

2. The unexpected

Take her on a romantic trip to wine country and spend the day wine tasting (but don’t get too hammered!). End the day with a sunset hot-air balloon ride. Right as the sun is setting, tell her that this was the closest you could get her to God, so that He could be witness to the most important moment of your life. Then go down on one knee and ask her to be by your side for the rest of your lives.

3. The low-key

Take her to your favorite upscale Asian restaurant. At the end of the meal, have a waiter bring fortune cookies that you’ve had personalized beforehand. There are several online places that personalize fortune cookies very inexpensively. Have the cookie say something like, “Karen from the moment we met, you have made my life richer and taught me the depth of what love can be like.” Then have another waiter bring a second fortune cookie on a serving tray that continues the message. “I can’t imagine a life without you in it” and then the third waiter will bring a final tray with the engagement ring box on top covered by a white linen napkin so that it’s not visible. On top of the linen is the final fortune cookie that says, “Confucius say: You should say yes to the next man who asks you to marry him, ” then pull off the white linen napkin. Take the engagement ring box, go down on one knee and propose.

4. The surprise public proposal

Arrange a proposal with the management before heading to a local aquarium or zoo. Have a sign posted up in one of the tanks or one of the exhibits. Or rent the advertising spaces they show even before they start the previews at the movie you take her to. Show up at her work with dozens of roses.

5. The pampered princess

Send her on a day of pampering for her “Christmas” present. Tell her you have the whole day arranged for her to relax and concentrate on a day of beauty. Have a limo pick her up from her home, pay for a day of massages, sea salt scrubs, aromatherapy, manicures and pedicures. Then send her shopping to pick out an outfit for your dinner date this evening. There is a place in San Diego called Pretty Is where they give you a makeup and hair glam session and then a personal stylist even helps her pick out an outfit to rent very inexpensively for the weekend. Have the limo take her to a restaurant with a great view. When you pop the question, tell her that you want to spend the rest of your life making sure she is treated like the princess she is and that you want her to feel as special as she did today, all the days of her life.

6. The Scavenger Hunt

Have a limo, pedicab or carriage pick her up unexpectedly from work or school. Take her on a short ride around the neighborhood with the ultimate destination being a really beautiful locale. At every stoplight, have either one of her friends or yours waiting with two roses. When she gets to the last two roses, you will be there waiting in a tux, an armful of roses and an engagement ring. Or you can send her around getting clues until her last clue leads her to you in a tux, an armful of roses and an engagement ring.

7. For the art lover

Contact a local gallery and see if they’ll help you out. Commission a painting of the two of you together, or the two of you as a family with children. Have them hang it in an inconspicuous place in the gallery among all the other art. Take a detour through this gallery as you’re walking home from dinner and when she notices the painting. Tell her it’s your vision of complete happiness, go down on one knee, and ask her to make this vision a reality by being your wife.

8. The out-of-character proposal

Take singing lessons or dance lessons and then blow her away by a big performance with your proposal at the end. Tell her she inspires you to become a better you, that she gives you courage to try new things and that she gives you hope for a beautiful future.

9. Right out of the movies proposal

Find out what her favorite love story or scene from a movie and reenact it. Is it “An Officer and a Gentlemen?” Then show up in an officers uniform and sweep her off her feet. Is her favorite part of a movie the end of “Dirty Dancing?” Hire some professional ballroom dancers, take some lessons yourself and reenact the scene where he dances with Baby at the end of the movie.

10. Venice adventure

Take her on a romantic sunset cruise on a Gondola Venetian style. They have these in Long Beach and San Diego. The combination of ocean, views, singing gondolier, cozy blanket, champagne and chocolate covered strawberries make any type of proposal irresistible. Then have her friends and family waiting on the dock when you pull back in with balloons and champagne screaming “Congratulations!”

Choosing a Bridesmaid dress for a Plus-Sized woman

How to Choose a Bridesmaids dress for a Plus-Sized Woman

Bridesmaids and Maid of Honor want to look (almost) as beautiful as the bride on the wedding day. Check out these 5 tips for how to pick out dresses that will flatter all body types.

1. Choose A line or empire waist dresses

2. Keep in mind that many plus size women don’t feel comfortable showing their legs and shoulders/arms. They may feel more comfortable with longer dresses and dresses with straps or sleeves. You can also throw in a shawl or pashmina to add a little cover to a strapless dress.

3. Darker colors help to slim the body

4. Choose flowy fabrics, satin is very unforgiving.

5. Ask the bride if she’ll allow for variety. Every bridesmaid will have a dress type that flatters her. As long as the length, color and overall style are the same, you can get away with small differences in dress. For example, more of a sleeve on one dress, an A-line on one dress… The most important thing is that everyone is comfortable in the dresses!
